Keyboard Hero DLC Drums (And remastering) Project
Saturday, March 15, 2014

Introduction

Spring Break is here and I already have other things to be doing… I was going to actually finish off Norg’s DLC pack but before I go for that, I noticed something about the DLC currently out for Keyboard Hero… One drum track per song rather than multiple…

This is changing. I have contacted Timaeus and Luigiblood and they have supplied me with separated Drum tracks… HOWEVER, they took the opportunity to also remaster the songs they gave me prior. Also some recharting will take effect soon. Take note, if you have played “Drop to Eventide” before, the intro will now have the piano track playing. Some other misc stuff is added in for playability. LuigiBlood’s has more powerful drums, making the sound much richer than before.

The reason for separated Drum tracks

The short answer: Guitar Hero and Rock Band do that.

The long answer: The more separation, the better. Though that is unrelated to the game itself. Let’s say you were playing the drums instrument and decided “I am totally not going to be using that kick pedal…”. Well if you miss a drum kick, you do not want the entire drum track to mute right? That would be ludicrous. So stems with separated drum tracks are basically there to save your ears from that awful pain.

So why not separate the guitar and etc as well?

Drums are much more lenient in hitting than other instruments. You can hit any note in any particular order (Even notes in a “chord”/same position). With Guitar, Keys, and Bass, you have to hit the previous notes to hit the next notes. In addition, you have to hold all of the frets down for chords, otherwise none of the notes count as a hit. Because of this leniency, missing a certain part for Drums should only mute that individual part rather than the entire track. Since Guitar, Bass, and Keys do not let you hit chord notes individually, it would be ideal for the entire track to mute upon missing a note.

The current DLC system in Keyboard Hero has a bug which doesn’t let it play multiple drum tracks. HOWEVER! I am trying to work on that stuff in my spare time. Actually you all might see a little… surprise… later on. :)
